While modern technology makes it seem like the world is getting smaller, there are still plenty of places in the world for adventure seekers. Even if a destination has millions of visitors each year, there are still some fantastic unexplored corners. There are still plenty of wild mountain areas, vast deserts and tranquil rainforests. So, here we’ll explore some of the best destinations for adventure seekers.

The Golden Circle in Iceland:

If you’re not a fan of the cold, this may be one adventure you want to skip. However, if you’re prepared to brave the chilly temperatures, the Golden Circle offers one of the most stunning routes in the world. Along the route, you’ll find Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland, where you can enjoy some local cuisine and even head to the geothermal pools. However, once you leave the civilized city, your adventure will start to get wilder. This includes the Thingvellir National Park, and Gullfoss Waterfall. Bear in mind that if you plan your visit for winter, you’ll also get to see the spectacular Northern Lights.

Ta Nang in Vietnam:

If your idea of a great adventure is a trek through beautiful countryside, then Ta Nang is the perfect spot for you. Ta Nang has mysterious jungles with grasslands and whistling winds. Once you head away from the city streets, it will seem as if the whole world has disappeared, as the scenery is untouched and you’ll struggle to get a cellphone signal. One of the great things about Ta Nang is that it is not as geographically challenging as some of the other adventure seeker treks. The route spans approximately 34 miles, but you’ll have to walk, climb and wade your way through this beautiful trek. Just be aware that while this destination is breathlessly stunning, it is not an easy trek. You’ll need to be fairly fit to be able to conquer it.

Machu Picchu in Peru:

Machu Picchu is a stone city that was once a forgotten wonder of the world, but today it is a beautiful destination for all adventure seekers. To reach the city, you’ll need to travel the Inca Trail. This seemingly flat trail can seem easy and a little uninteresting at first, but after only a day or two, you’ll see why this is one of the best destinations for adventure seekers. However, if you want to see one of the highest Andes peaks, the Nevado Salkantay, you can take the Salkantay Trek to reach Machu Picchu. Just be sure to take time out to visit the Sacred Valley during your break. This stunning area is also home to a variety of adrenaline pumping activities including exploring Incan ruins and ziplining through the forest.

Marrakech in Morocco:

When you’re looking for a desert adventure, you should plan a visit to Marrakech in Morocco. Morocco has an indefinable quality that makes it unforgettable. Whether it is the enormous sand dunes or the vibrant culture, taking an expedition to the Sahara desert can allow you to immerse yourself in the Moroccan charm. You can interact with the nomadic people, drink freshly brewed tea as you watch the sunset in the Valley of Roses or camel trek in Erg Chebbi. While this is not as physically taxing as some of the other adventures on our list, visiting Marrakech is certainly a great adventure that will have you thirsting for more.

The Neptune Islands, Australia:

Off the coast of South Australia, you’ll find the Neptune Islands and this is where the largest colony of long nosed fur seals in Australia make their home. These are an interesting sight, but they are also a draw for an infamous predator, the great white shark. While we know little about great white sharks’ migration habits, the warm and cold currents from the Southern and Indian Oceans merge, offering a diverse selection of wildlife, which make the perfect hunting grounds for the sharks. Adrenaline junkie adventure seekers can even get into the water with the sharks. You’ll be safe inside a steel cage, but it is possible to get only inches away from these 19 foot long beautiful monsters. Many tour companies now use sound rather than live bait to attract the sharks, so you can watch in wonder as the sharks swim all around you.

Botswana:

If you’re planning a safari in Africa, you’ll find that most camps remain in the same place like you would find with a traditional hotel. However, if you’re more of a die hard, you may want to try a mobile safari in Botswana. These totally mobile adventures allow you to move locations based on wildlife movements and weather conditions. You can move across the country to take in fauna rich areas like the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and Okavango Delta, following groups of elephants, hippos and lions.

The Great Barrier Reef, Australia:

Another Australian destination for adventure seekers is the Great Barrier Reef. If you have only a passing interest in diving, the Great Barrier Reef is the pinnacle of destinations. The site has over 400 types of coral and thousands of different fish species. Unfortunately, due to climate change and coral bleaching, the reef is rapidly eroding, so it is crucial that you see this sight while it is still in all its glory.

Mount Fuji, Japan:

Mount Fuji is an iconic natural wonder, rising up 12,388 feet over the Japanese villages, reflecting on the surface of lakes and dominating the landscape. You can view the mountain from numerous places including Lake Kawaguchi or even from hotel rooftops in Tokyo. However, genuine adventure seekers will only be satisfied by climbing Mount Fuji. The official climbing season opens in early July and it remains until mid September. There are designated trails and even paved roads that are free of snow. However, you’ll have the ultimate in bragging rights when you reach the top and take in the views.

The Great Blue Hole, Belize:

Belize is a popular destination for vacationers looking for a place to chill out, but if you want an adventure, you’ll need to head to the Great Blue Hole. This is a sinkhole in the middle of the Lighthouse Reef that spans 1000 feet. While you may have seen an aerial shot that shows its beauty, you won’t truly appreciate the wonders of this destination by diving the hole. Underneath the stunning, blue waters, you’ll find limestone stalagmites and stalactites that are up to 40 feet long, which all formed throughout the last glacial period.
